UXcamp Europe 20 – Review
A Look Back
UXCamp Europe 2020 made some exciting tweaks to boost the virtual experience while keeping things interactive. Instead of pitching ideas live, participants submitted their session proposals ahead of time, which really helped in organizing the agenda. To get everyone involved, attendees were invited to share selfies of their event setups. This sparked a fantastic wave of creativity on Slack, showcasing everything from home offices and balconies to family members and laptops.
insightful Sessions on UX Research and Maturity
The program featured a variety of thought-provoking sessions. International UX Research by Dr. Jennifer Klatt explored best practices for conducting research across different cultural contexts, emphasizing the importance of intercultural communication. In Measuring Corporate UX Maturity, Diana Loeffler presented a 45-minute workshop using UX maturity cards, outlining how organizations evolve in UX maturity and how long it typically takes to progress to the next stage.
Circuit’s Mute Functionality
Talks were streamed via Circuit, with discussions taking place both in the platform’s dedicated discussion section and Slack. However, we stumbled upon an unexpected user experience hiccup: the settings on Circuit allowed anyone to mute anyone else, even the speakers! This led to a few funny moments, as many new users accidentally muted entire discussions while trying to just mute their own mics. It turned into a lighthearted theme throughout the event. To help clear things up, we shared guidelines on how to use the mute function via Slack and social media in both English and German
Keeping Traditions Alive: The UXCamp Europe Final Song
Despite the virtual format, some traditions remained unchanged. As always, UXCamp Europe concluded with its traditional final song—this time with organizers wearing masks showing that even from a distance, the spirit of community and tradition remained strong.
