UXcamp Europe 22 – Review

Key Themes and Insights

1. Design Operations and Research Ops

The role of design operations (DesignOps) and research operations (ResearchOps) took center stage, with sessions exploring how structured processes and cross-functional collaboration enhance UX maturity within organizations. Discussions covered best practices for stakeholder engagement, streamlining workflows, and integrating research insights into product development.

2. Cross-Platform Design Systems

Ensuring consistency across digital experiences remains a core challenge for UX teams. Several sessions focused on the development and management of design systems that work seamlessly across multiple platforms, highlighting their importance in achieving efficiency and scalability in product design.

3. Cultural Dynamics in UX

Cultural influences shape how people design, collaborate, and communicate. The talk "SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT" provided a deep dive into cultural variations in UX, drawing insights from Erin Meyer's "The Culture Map" to illustrate how design decisions and work cultures differ across regions.

4. The Shift to Hybrid Work and Self-Organizing Teams

The evolving nature of work was a key topic at UXcamp Europe 2022. Sessions explored how hybrid work models are reshaping collaboration, team dynamics, and organizational structures. Conversations also touched on self-organization, discussing how teams can work effectively with more autonomy and flexibility.

5. Strategic Positioning of UX

Moving beyond execution, UX professionals are increasingly involved in strategic decision-making. Talks such as "Design at the Strategy Table" and "The Iceberg Model of UX Culture" examined how UX teams can better position themselves within organizations, advocate for user-centered thinking, and demonstrate the business value of UX.

We extend our gratitude to all attendees, speakers, volunteers, and sponsors who made UXcamp Europe 2022 a resounding success. The event underscored the evolving landscape of UX and the importance of community-driven learning.
